Climate Risk is an emerging topic of increased focus across the banking industry, garnering substantial interest from investors, regulators, and the public. A new team was formed within Capital One's Enterprise Risk Management functions to take on the work of integrating climate risk management into our broader risk management and governance framework.To support this work, we are seeking a leader for our Climate Risk Analytics workstream. This workstream's mission is to stand up and run capabilities toassess the impact of key climate-related transition and physical risks over the short, medium, and long term time horizons, across all our LOBs.
The Business Director, Climate Risk Analytics will report to the Sr. Business Director, Climate Risk Management. This individual will be accountable for developing, implementing, and managing Capital One's climate risk analytics capabilities, including climate scenario analysis. While this new process will leverage the firm's existing risk management frameworks, risk identification processes, scenario analysis capabilities, and credit analytics, it will also require the introduction of new governance, scenario design processes, data, models, and skills across the Lines of Defense. This role will require the individual to define the end-state of the team, including the possibility for recruiting for additional resources. (Role currently has one report).
The ideal candidate for this role will have strong analytical skills and experience, and an in-depth understanding of risk identification, scenario analysis, and stress testing frameworks and processes. Ideally, this experience will have been gained through experience building and/or managing one or more of these processes. Additionally, this candidate will possess significant leadership experience, including leadership of direct teams, program delivery, and influence/collaboration with multiple stakeholders across the organization. Ideally, the candidate will also have experience with climate risk identification and analysis in the financial services sector. The ideal candidate for this role will also be comfortable crafting their own vision for the workstream, and navigating the ambiguity that comes with a nascent space such as climate risk.
Climate Risk-specific responsibilities include:
Develop a strategy for the Climate Risk Analytics workstream
Drive a cross-functional effort to develop, implement and mature Climate risk scenario analysis capabilities across the firm
Design appropriate governance, oversight, and effective challenge of scenario analysis
Develop reporting on the outcomes of scenario analysis to a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, Board, and regulators
Develop and operate appropriate scenario design processes
Run ad hoc analysis to support the identification and assessment of climate risks
Identify incremental data needs relative to climate risk analytics and lead efforts to acquire and/or improve the quality of this data
Support climate risk content for external disclosures (e.g., 10-K, Climate disclosures)
General Business Director responsibilities include:
Credit Risk: Drive step-change improvements in credit performance by connecting drivers of future consumer credit trends to historical behavior, creating risk models, and testing hypotheses using rigorous monitoring and analysis
Execution: Manage and sequence delivery of business intent, build business requirements and execute against the product strategy. Oversee multiple projects and programs concurrently
Partnership: Work closely with colleagues across Capital One including: IT, Sales, Operations, Finance and others
Strategic; analytic orientation: A proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation, given that a large part of the business is based on rigorous analytic marketing & credit risk management
Strong business judgment, leadership and integrity: They should be a tenacious decision maker, able to bring a healthy, aggressive, yet responsible approach to business
Solid people leadership experience: Ability to build and leverage the capabilities of a high-performing team, as well as business partners across the enterprise. They should foster innovation, drive critical decisions, hold business partners accountable, and be able to consistently deliver results
Strong executive communication skills: Impeccable written and oral communication credentials, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills
Clear results orientation: display an intense focus on achieving both short and long term goals. They should be able to drive and execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment
Successful track record of thriving in a fast paced, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment. Previous consulting experience is a plus

At least 7 years of experience in analysis

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $233,100 - $266,000 for Business DirectorCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
